Collaborative tasks with complex task dependencies require coordination. But coordination is not an individual, but a relationship construct. Therefore, in this study we analyze our data (collected with a survey instrument) using a network analytic model composed of various multiplex dyadic relationships. We look at how task dependencies and various interpersonal (i.e., leadership), knowledge (i.e., familiarity) and behavioral (i.e., communication) relationships influence coordination effectiveness. More specifically, we analyze the main effect of task dependency on coordination and the main and moderator effects of distributed leadership and shared task familiarity, along with several other control variables. While this study was conducted with a software development group in Northern Europe, Alberto´s goal is to draw parallels with nursing to help us understand which of these principles and findings may apply to coordination of the handover between nursing work shifts.

The event is open to the public and free of charge. There will be the opportunity to take part with Zoom. Please register for the lunch talk by November 10, by clicking here.
