Biosketch
Farah Islam completed a BA in Psychology from McGill University (2016) and a MSc in Public Health from the Université de Montréal in (2018) (Montréal, Canada). In 2019, she obtained a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship from the European Commission and conducted her PhD in Biomedical Sciences at KU Leuven University (2023) (Leuven, Belgium). During her doctoral research, she also pursued an internship with the Christelijke Mutualiteit, the largest health insurance fund located in Belgium and collaborated as a scientific researcher with the Jagiellonian University Medical College (Kraków, Poland) from which she received an award from the Polish National Agency for best doctoral students at an international level. In June 2023, Farah joined the Institute of Nursing Science at the University of Basel as a postdoctoral researcher. Currently, she is working on the INTERSCALE Project led by Prof. Dr. Franziska Zúñiga.
In addition to her scientific interests to improve quality of care transitions for older adults, Farah also plays an active role in the community as a member of the European Society for Emergency Geriatric Medicine (2019-present) and Chair of the Benelux Chapter for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Alumni Association (2022-present).
