Katja Jungo studied Anthropology and Hispanic Studies and holds a Master’s degree in Changing Societies from the University of Basel. During her studies she focused on urban anthropology, migration studies and political economy in Switzerland and Ecuador and conducted qualitative research on these topics. In her ethnographic research, she focused on the entanglements between social actors and material spaces in the urban context, with a particular emphasis on intergenerational relationship dynamics, gender roles and urban-rural perceptions of individuals. Her research involved predominantly exploratory research methodologies, namely sensory ethnography.
In February 2025, she started as a PhD candidate at the Institute of Nursing Sciences in the research project EPICENTRE-PARTICIPATIO under the supervision of Dr. Sandra Staudacher and Prof. Dr. Franziska Zúñiga.
