Funding

Various options are available for PhD funding, mainly as personal scholarships and project grants. The primary supervisor is responsible to secure the funding before starting the PhD. Information on the availability of resources and funding are part of the PhD Agreement.

All INS PhD students are employees of the University of Basel, and enjoy the benefits the University provides to its staff. They are employed according to the Swiss National Science Foundation’s salary scales for doctoral students.

Students are generally employed on a full-time basis. However, it is possible to combine a part-time INS appointment with an appointment in a relevant clinical practice setting. In order to guarantee that doctoral students have sufficient time for their doctoral studies, clinical appointments are limited to 20%.
