Yip

Olivia Yip’s dissertation describes the development of the INSPIRE integrated care model for home-dwelling older adults in Canton Basel-Landschaft using an implementation science approach.

The INSPIRE study is a multi-phase implementation science project which aims to develop, implement and evaluate an integrated care model for the new Information and Advice Centers in Canton Basel-Landschaft. Olivia Yip’s dissertation is embedded within the INSPIRE project and focuses on the research which was invested into the development phase of the integrated care model for home-dwelling older adults as well as the study protocol to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of the care model.

As integrated care may be an evidence-informed solution for frail older adults, this dissertation describes the implementation science methods and theory-driven approach used to develop a contextually-appropriate integrated care model. The core components of the integrated care model are described based on evidence in the field, and the dissertation highlights the important role of: a contextual analysis using mixed methods; stakeholder engagement; and a logic model including the selection of preliminary implementation strategies. A comprehensive understanding of the types of health and social care and support used by home-dwelling frail older adults was also captured, as well as experience and future preferences, as a precursor to implementing the new care model.

This dissertation also describes the evaluation plan for how the feasibility and effectiveness of the care model will be assessed along with the implementation.
