Projektbeschreibung
Background
Digital health interventions, such as remote patient monitoring, present a promising solution to the challenges posed by aging societies, enabling continuous health monitoring and facilitating timely interventions by healthcare providers. Despite these benefits, adoption in long-term care settings is hindered by challenges such as limited infrastructure, high costs, resistance to change, staff training, and a lack of context-specific guidance. Current implementation tools fail to address the complex needs of older adults and lack a strong theoretical foundation for effective integration. Furthermore, there is limited scientific knowledge on how existing solutions can be successfully implemented in long-term care settings to enhance safety, equity, and quality of care for older adults.
Objective
The E-QUALITY project aims to co-create a theoretically robust and stakeholder-informed toolkit for the successful implementation of fall-related remote patient monitoring solutions that align with the specific needs and capacities of long-term care facilities across the German and French-speaking regions of Switzerland.
Methods/Design
This study will include two parts. In part one, a mixed-methods study will examine organizational- and user-related factors influencing the successful implementation of fall-related remote patient monitoring in LTCFs. A two-phase, explanatory, quantitatively driven sequential design will include surveys and follow-up interviews with facility management, staff, and stakeholders. Findings will inform an initial toolkit prototype featuring training materials, an implementation roadmap, a barriers-solutions catalogue, an AgeTech market map, and case studies. Part two will involve refining and finalizing the toolkit through iterative roundtable discussions with key stakeholders to ensure practicality, feasibility, and alignment with organizational and policy priorities. Stakeholder feedback will be collected and incorporated iteratively throughout the study to effectively address end-user needs.
Expected Benefits/Relevance
The E-QUALITY project addresses the global challenge of population aging and the need for high-quality, technology-enabled, and equitable care for older adults. By generating evidence on how fall-related remote patient monitoring solutions can be successfully implemented in long-term care settings, this project will provide insights for enhancing safety, preventing fall-related injuries, and promoting the overall wellbeing of residents in long-term care settings. These findings will provide important implications for the sustainable integration of digital health innovations and support the development of equitable, person-centred care systems for aging populations.
